How do I turn a .pub file into a JPG or PNG?
- Open your .pub file in PubStudio on Windows, or online in Chrome or Edge with a Pro licence.
- Go to File > Export > Pictures.
- Pick the format: PNG or JPEG, or GIF, TIFF, BMP, WMF or EMF.
- Pick the resolution: 96 dpi for screens, 150 dpi for the web and email, 300 dpi for printing, or 600 dpi for the sharpest result.
- Pick the pages: all of them, the page you're on, or a range like 1-3, 5. Each page becomes its own picture.
- Choose Save Pictures.
JPG or PNG?
- PNG keeps text and flat colors crisp, so it suits flyers, posters, signs and certificates.
- JPG makes smaller files, so it suits pages that are mostly photos, and anywhere with an upload limit.
Sending pages to a photo printing service? File > Export > For a Photo Lab saves each page as a 300 dpi JPEG or TIFF.
Only need to share or print it?
Saving as PDF is free: File > Export > PDF or XPS. A PDF opens on any phone or computer, keeps the layout, and prints sharp. The free version adds a "Made with PubStudio" line at the foot of each page. See convert a .pub file to PDF.
Questions
Is converting .pub to JPG free?
Picture export is part of PubStudio Pro, which is $10 a month or $99 a year, and you can cancel any time. The 7-day trial includes it. Opening, editing, printing and saving as PDF are free.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. PubStudio makes the pictures on your own PC, or inside your own browser when you use it online. There's no account.
Do I need Publisher installed?
No. PubStudio reads .pub files itself, from Publisher 98 through Microsoft 365, so it works on PCs that never had Publisher.
Can I convert a whole folder of .pub files at once?
Yes, to PDF or Word: with Pro, File > Export > A Whole Folder converts every .pub file in a folder in one go. Pictures are made one publication at a time. See converting a whole folder.
