Text formatting

These work on the text you have selected while typing, or on all the text in the selected boxes.

Ctrl+B, Ctrl+I, Ctrl+U	Bold, italic, underline
Ctrl+L, Ctrl+E, Ctrl+R, Ctrl+J	Align left, centre, right, justify
Ctrl+Shift+> and Ctrl+Shift+<	Bigger or smaller font
Ctrl+= and Ctrl+Shift+=	Subscript, superscript
Ctrl+Shift+A	All capitals (while typing)
Ctrl+Shift+K	Small capitals (while typing)
Ctrl+Space	Clear character formatting (while typing)
Ctrl+1, Ctrl+2, Ctrl+5	Single, double and 1.5 line spacing (while typing)
Ctrl+K	Insert a hyperlink

Typing and moving in text

Arrow keys	Move the cursor
Ctrl+Left, Ctrl+Right	Move a word at a time
Home, End	Start or end of the line
Ctrl+Home, Ctrl+End	Start or end of the text
Shift+Arrow keys	Select text as you move (also with Home, End and Ctrl)
Ctrl+A	Select all the text (in linked boxes, the whole story)
Enter	New paragraph
Shift+Enter	New line in the same paragraph
Ctrl+Backspace, Ctrl+Delete	Delete the word before or after the cursor
Tab	Type a tab; in a bulleted or numbered list, move the item in a level
Shift+Tab	Move a list item back out a level
Tab, Shift+Tab	In a table: the next or previous cell
Esc	Stop editing text

Mouse

Shift+click or Ctrl+click	Add to or take from the selection
Drag on an empty part of the page	Select the objects inside (Shift: add them to the selection)
Ctrl+drag	Copy the object as you drag it
Shift+drag	Move straight across or straight down
Shift+drag a corner handle	Resize keeping the proportions (pictures always keep them; Shift lets a picture stretch)
Ctrl+drag a handle	Resize from the centre
Shift+drag the rotate handle	Rotate in 15° steps
Alt+drag	Move, resize or draw without snapping
Double-click a box	Start typing where you clicked, in a text box or shape
Double-click a picture	Open the Picture Format tab (an embedded file opens in its own program)
Double-click a line	Format the line or arrow
Ctrl+click a link	Follow a hyperlink
Right-click	Menu of things to do with what you clicked

Drawing and tables

Shift+drag while drawing	A square or circle; a line at 45° steps
Shift+drag the end of a line	Keep the line at 45° steps
Enter or double-click	Freeform tool: finish the shape (click to add each point)
Esc	Freeform tool: stop without drawing
Shift+drag a column line	Widen a table column without narrowing the next one
Ctrl+click a wrap point	Remove a point when editing wrap points

Panes, menus and dialogs

Enter	OK in a dialog
Esc	Cancel a dialog, close a menu or leave the File screen
Ctrl+click or Shift+click	Selection pane: select more than one object
Double-click	Selection pane: rename an object
